The Museum Board of Trustees operates
the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum, a d/b/a of the Citrus County
Historical Society, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation.
The mission is to serve the community through the education
of the rich cultural heritage of Citrus County and through the
presentation and interpretation of its history, documenting
the historical significance of Citrus County.
Traditionally, courthouses have been symbolic of the founding
and pioneering spirit of the people who settled the area and
the time and events which shaped their community. The symbolism
of the 1912 Old Courthouse Heritage Museum is deeply rooted
and intricately woven into the sustaining fabric of our county,
our state, and our nation.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Old
Courthouse is a priceless part of Citrus County's heritage and
the focus for much of the work of the Historical Society. It
serves as the location for Archives and Special Collections,
headquarters of the Citrus County Historical Society, and houses
the office of Citrus County's Director of Museum Services, Educational
Coordinator and The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum.
The museum focuses upon the presentation of the county's history
and heritage through a wide variety of exciting educational
and interpretive exhibitions and presentations, both within
the Museum, and off-site throughout the community.
