Traditionally, courthouses have been symbolic of the founding
and pioneering spirit of the people who settled the area and
the time and events which shaped their community. The symbolism
of the 1912 Old Courthouse Heritage Museum (delete) is deeply
rooted and intricately woven into the sustaining fabric of our
county, our state, and our nation.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Old
Courthouse is a priceless part of Citrus County's heritage and
the focus for much of the work of the Historical Society. It
serves as the location for the Citrus County (add) Archives
and Special Collections, headquarters of the Citrus County Historical
Society, and houses the office of Citrus County's Director of
Museum Services, Educational Coordinator and The Old Courthouse
Heritage Museum.
The museum focuses upon the presentation of the county's history
and heritage through a wide variety of exciting, educational,
and interpretive exhibitions and presentations, both within
the Museum, and off-site throughout the community.
